Pedigree Adoption Drive
Please read this and if you have a blog, please take action today to add your link to the Blog Hop on Life With Dogs.
•Each year, more than 4 million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organisations. Pedigree created an adoption drive to help shine a spotlight on the plight of these homeless dogs.
•This year the Pedigree Adoption Drive is raising awareness for homeless dogs by donating a bowl of food to shelter dogs for everyone who becomes a “Fan” or “Likes” The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive on Facebook. So far more than 1 million bowls have been donated.
•Special for bloggers: For each blog that posts about the adoption drive through September 19th, Pedigree® will donate a bag of their new Healthy Longevity Food for Dogs to shelters nationwide.
•Thursday, September 16 through Sunday, September 19, the Pedigree BlogPaws bloggers will host a Blog Hop to help raise awareness for the “Write a post, help a dog” effort.
If you’d like to join, copy the bullet points above and share them on your blog. NB: It can be any blog, not just one related to dogs or pets. In fact, the more people outside of our community who are sharing the message, the better.
After you write your post, head over to Life With Dogs and leave a link to your post.
Now for my own dog news:
With the help of copious treats, Jasper is getting much better at coming when he is called. I am having to overcome problems caused by Bryn. She will nip at his feet if he comes near her. It is her idea of fun, and not aggressive at all, but Jasper doesn't like it and who can blame him! Even putting Jasper out in the garden becomes difficult. Bryn gets out first and turns to wait for Jas to come and "play". Jasper stays where he is.
There was an accident in the house today. I assume it was Jas but it may have been Bryn and Jas "covering" it. I mopped it with a kitchen paper towel and showed it to both of them saying that that belongs in the garden. Jas sniffed interestedly and Bryn cringed so no clues there. Bryn cringes automatically. So I dropped the paper in the garden and washed the place with washing soda. I don't know if it gets rid of smells as well as bicarb, but it was handy.
Picking up the accident in a paper towel and taking the puppy with you while you place it on the spot where you want pup to perform, is a great addition to basic house training. For it to work properly you have to leave the soiled paper towel there and take pup in again and clean up discreetly later, so if you don’t have your own garden it may be awkward, but you should only have to do it once or twice.
The essential house training is watching puppy like a hawk and always taking pup out the moment s/he wakes up from a nap.
Today, we walked to Coronation Park, which is closest, and I let Jas off the lead. It is a very small park and tends to have a lot of broken glass, so I won't let them both off to play in case they cut their feet. Jasper enjoyed the freedom to sniff where he likes, and Bryn enjoyed sniffing without having to dive out of the way every time Jasper raised a leg. It is a park used by many owners of small dogs, so there is plenty of pee-mail.
When Jasper got to the other end of the park he did a great sit stay until I got there. I had to say no, stay, when he had the thought that it would be nice to sniff just one more bush. He hadn't moved except the wiggle of an ear and a half turn of his head, but it was easy to see what he was thinking. He got lots of treats.
On the way back we passed Henry barking behind his gate. Bryn did give a couple of lunges, but they were half-hearted, and when I said no she sat and waited for her treats. Jasper had treats too of course. He always ignores Henry.
