Portrait of Rose

Portrait of Rose is drawn in graphite pencil on  Graphic Film. It is ACEO size 3.5 x 2.5 inches. The drawing was given to my brother as a Christmas present.  Rose is my mother and I wanted to do a portrait of her for years. She wouldn't let me. I said, "But all artists do portraits of their mother. Think of Whistler's mother" and she said "I am!"  I did this portrait after her death. The photograph I worked from was taken by my father on their honeymoon in Anglesey. It felt appropriate to do it as a miniature.

You may wonder why I gave it away. For me it is the act of creation that is important. Once finished, it is part of me forever.
